Comments by Peter Marshall about Kit IDA-PM10068B - Gnome Rhone AX2
I recently purchased several of IDAP Technologies Gnome Rhone AX2 motorcycles in 1/72 scale thru their Etsy site. I received the bikes in good shape and fairly good time. They are beautifully detailed!
They even modeled the brake levers on the handlebars. However looking at the models I was surprised at the size of the GR AX2 since it dwarfs the Sokol 1000 motorcycle I purchased at the same time, also in 1/72 scale.
Above is a picture of GR AX2 (on the left) and Sokol (on the right), side by side for comparison. Not really easy to see the difference because of all the supports, but the GR is about 6mm longer than the Sokol, and the
wheels are much larger on the GR.
I know the GR was large, but I had my doubts about the size difference and thought maybe they printed mine in a larger scale. So I messaged IDAP on Etsy to inquire. They replied that the GR was a big bike and that mine
was 1/72. Not convinced, I started doing some digging for dimensions on this bike. Found that the wheelbase of the GR was 1485mm (wheel center to wheel center) which in 1/72 is about 20.63mm.
Measuring the model wheelbase, I got about 22.8mm, so about 2mm too long, which would make the model about 1/65 scale.
Also the GR bike has 19 inch dia wheels; ie the rim dia is 19 inches, which in 1/72 scale is about 6.7mm. On my kit the rim dia measures to be about 7.2mm. Not as easy to measure accurately but still it's about 0.5mm larger.
Also the GR and Sokol both had 19 inch wheels and a quick glance at the two models clearly shows the GR wheels to be significantly larger.
I'm convinced the GR model is the wrong scale. I have been messaging Piotr at IDAP (thru Etsy) and sending him the AX2 dimensional information. He replied that he can produce the models I'm requesting in the correct dimensions for 1/72 scale. I am also interested in a couple other French motorcycles that they offer and I also sent wheelbase and wheel dia info for them, so they can scale correctly.
I will provide an update once I receive the new kits. - Peter Marshall - (info from Missing Lynx / Tapatalk)

3D Printed Parts

History
The beach armoured recovery vehicle (BARV) is an armoured recovery vehicle used for amphibious landings. There have been three different BARVs in British service since their introduction during World War II.
They have also been tested by the Canadians and used by Dutch and Australian forces.
The Model
The model consists of 2 printed plates with a lot of print channels. (The first plate contains the hull and 2 wooden beams, the second contains the trackunits) The parts are nice and sharp printed. The used resin is hard and small parts will broken quickly
The model is closer to 1/76 then 1/72 scale
Construction description and Decals
A construction description or decals are not included
Negative points
- Unfortunately I had heavy problems with the toothing of the tracks. The existing print channels are also attached to the teeth points. (photos 1 and 2). The toothing is so fragile that when removing the print channels,
the necessary teeths broke off. To remove the print channels, I tried the following options, new sharp knife, pointed cutting pliers and heated knife. The toothing was damaged with all methods. (Photos 3 and 4) Maybe it was better to use a fine saw.
- Other negative points is that the track gliders on the bogie trucks are missed (photo 3 and 4) and the bottom of the vehicle is not detailed and contains 4 round holes.(photo 5)
Earlier production line
The kit is from earlier production line, hopefully do have the later (newer) produced kits not the same disapointed problems
Info webmaster
- I did not encounter the same problems with the track toothing and / or Sherman bottom plates of the Chinese label ssModel. The bottom plates of this label are fully detailled
According to information, the Sherman BARV is based on the hull of the Sherman M4A2. Compared to the Dragon label Sherman M4A2, the BARV is about 2mm shorter in length, so possibly slightly smaller than 1/72.
The Sherman BARV is a special Sherman variant. For Sherman enthusiasts, the model is recommended to complete his collection

History
The Sherman T-10 Mineexploder is based on the M4A2 Sherman. The tank body was stripped of its tracks and running gear so that its front-mounted differential could be coupled (through a projecting pinion gear)
to the oversize slotted wheels. The M4A2 high bustle turret with its 75mm gun was operationally retained, though presumably of no tactical use when the vehicle was remotely operated
Two 243,8cm diameter rollers were mounted at the front of the tank driven by additional gearing from the final drive. Each of the front rollers was 93cm wide and the gap between them was covered
by a 182,8cm diameter double roller trailing at the rear of the tank. This arrangement moved the bottom of the hull up to 141cm above the ground. A path 381cm wide was covered and the overall
weight was 52.800Kg. The T10 moved at 3,2 Km/h when exploding mines and could reach a maximum of 11 Km/h on roads.
The model
The model contains 5 plates with respectively, Hull, Turret, 2x Frontwheel units and the Rearwheel unit. The parts are nicely printed in the usual grey resin. The used resin is hard and small parts will broken quickly
Wrong Turret and incorrect hull - Parts not usable!
Unfortunately the model has quite important errors. The layout by turret ring of the upper hull is not correct. The bottom plate of the hull has no detailing and has 11 round holes. (pictures 2 <> 6)
The turret is too small and is definitely not like the original high bustle turret of the M4A2 (pictures 7 & 8) - (To obtain a correct model the hull and turret must be replaced with correct parts)
Replacing with correct hull and turret
For correct hull and turret you can use the M4A2 from Dragon, Zvezda or Heller and maybe others. (For construction information visit the links below)
Exploder Parts
The exploder parts are printed sharp and appear to be correct and usable
Comparing
The M4A2 hull and turret from IDAP Technology are compared to the M4A2 from 1/72 Dragon (pictures 5 <> 8)
Construction description and Decals
A construction description or decals are not included
Info webmaster
This model is in first instance not recommended. Due to the unusable hull and turret and the need to use a correct extra M4A2 it becomes an expensive model.
So the model is only suitable for Sherman enthusiasts who do not mind the higher price
