Comments: HenkofHolland
I was started before 2000 with mastermaking for the 1/76 scale resin manufacturer "Ostmodels" in Australia. In that time and for the 1/76 scale, the masters were high detailled and from a high quality. After years the masters are a little bit outdated, but in this scale very acceptable. So as in all resin companies the quality of the kits are dependent on the grade of the master and the casting. The quality of the resin and castingmethod are now much better then many years ago. It's sometimes needed to rework and/or upgrade the master after a while.
Not all Ostmodels kits are in my collection, but I have showed what is possible for me.

Australian Vehicles - 1/76 Scale

Kit A2 - Australian Carrier 3 inch mortar

ostau/AC3inch01.jpg ostau/AC3inch02.jpg ostau/AC3inch03.jpg ostau/AC3inch04.jpg

The 3-inch Mortar carrier had the same basic hull and specifications as the 2-pdr Anti-Tank Carrier. The fighting compartment contained the main arnament, an "Ordnance, ML, 3-inch Mortar". This could project a 9.6-pound H.E. bomb at an M.V. of 620 fps to a distance of 2,790 yards. The mortar was mounted on a revolving turntable fixed to the floor of the compartment, and could be traversed through 360-degrees.

ostau/1/01.jpg ostau/1/02.jpg ostau/1/03.jpg ostau/1/04.jpg

The 2-pdr Anti-Tank Carrier was born from a percieved necessity to give greater mobility to anti-tank guns. The answer was to mount the then standard anti-tank gun, the 2-pdr QF, onto a suitable modified MG Carrier hull.

Kit-I13 - L6/40 Flamme
Armed with a flame projector and co-axial 8mm mg, the 6.8 ton L6/40 Flamm was produced in small numebers, most probably only as prototype. However conjecture persist that it may have seen action, although at present there is a very little information to support this. The flame projector was mounted in the same turret used for the gun tank with modified mantle. It was based on the system used in the CV33/35 tankette series although different in detail.

ostmodel/i13/01.jpg ostmodel/i13/02.jpg ostmodel/i13/03.jpg ostmodel/i13/04.jpg

Kit I14 - Semovente M41 da 75/32
The longer and more powerful 75/32 Model 37 field gun was tried on a M14/41 chassis. This project was canceled in 1942 in favour of the Semovente da 75/34 on the longer M42 chassis. Crewed by theree and carrying 42 rounds, some sources suggest that about 25 were built and used by the Germans. Other specifications are similar to the Semovente 75/18 upon which it was based.

Kit I15 - Carro Armato M13/40 (early) - Command Vehicle
This vehicle was built to accompany the groups of Semovente da 75/18 self propelled guns. Essentially it was a turretless tank carrying extra communication equipment. This was earlier version armed with the two 8mm Breda machine guns from the original tank upon wgich it was based. It also sometimes had an 8mm Breda on AA mounting. It was built on the M13 tank chassis.

Kit I16 - Carro Armato M14/41 - Command Vehicle
This vehicle was built to accompany the groups of Semovente da 75/18 self propelled guns. Essentially it was a turretless tank carrying extra communication equipment. This was the later, more refined version armed with a Breda 13.2 machine gun and an 8mm Breda machine gun on an AA mounting. It was built on the M13, M14 and M15 chassis.

During World War I the Frech had issued a specification for a heavy "breakthrough" tank, Char de Rupture C, at a weight of about 40 tons. Two prototypes, Chars 1A and 1B were produced in 1917-18. Then, later development produced an even heavier tank -nearly 70 tons in weight. This was the Char 2C. It did not become operational during the war, but 10 were built, the last being delivered in 1922. In their day they were the most powerful tanks in the world, with a crew of twelve, a 75mm gun in the front turret and four machine gun (one in an auxiliary turret at the rear of the tank). One of them was converted to mount a 155mm howitzer as well as the 75mm and the four machine guns and led some Intelligence circles to think that France was building large numbers of "Super Tanks". The Char 2C had two 250 hp Mercedes engines driving electric generators to run a motor for each track and give the tank a top speed of 8 mph.

All of this tanks were destroyed in 1940, when they were being transported to the front by train.
FM2C n° 92 and 95 have been destroyed by their crew after they broke down. The other 6 tanks have been transported by rail south of Neufchateau. They have been subject of air attack but without damage. All the tanks have been sabotaged by their crew since they could'nt be dismounted from their rail transport cars. (the rails were on an abutment and the rail track was curved). Dimensions

Russian Vehicles - 1/76 Scale

Combat Usage

The Winter War

The SU-14 was used quite successful in the destruction of Finnish fortifications during the Winter War.

In April 1940, the SU-14 and SU-14-1 were going through tests in NIAP, and in July, were in P.F. Lebedev's tank group in the Keiv Region. In September 1940, both units were given to NIBT for storage. In the fall of 1941, when defending Moscow, both SU-14s and an experienced SU T-100-U in a unit called "Separate Heavy Division for Special Purposes" were used in the Kubinka Region to fire from protected positions at advancing German forces (likely, they were using any working weapon available)
