"The Main Street" back to 40's

(Comments by Paul Tian)

Hello, everyone, I'm pleased to have the possibility to share my experiences with other modellers.
In fact, I'm not a professional small scale military modeler, but more a "Train Lover". The model trains I have are in British OO scale (1/76), a scale close to 1/72. Due limited space in my home, I can make only small diorama scenes.
"The Main street" diorama has a size from around 60 cm x 35cm. The showed scene is about a busy street back to 40's. Including buildings, vehicles, people and landscapes from that time.
The buildings on the background are 1/76 scale "British Metcalfe OO/HO Gauge Low Relief paper card buildings". They are based on originals. Further I have added to a lot of details and after weathering it seems more real. The neon lights on the buildings are from "Miller's engineering HO animated sign". For whole diorama is used 12V DC power.
Most important for this diorama is the way of using light. The layout is always more attractive because of light, sound and other effects. I have enclosed these factors into this diorama with positive result!

Next 1/72 scale vehicles are used:

MilitaryWheels:
Kit 7230 - Tram Car Series
Kit 7233 - Gaz-AA Truck

Ace Models:
Kit 72298 - US Army staff car Ford Model 1942
Kit 72211 - GAZ-M1 "Emka"
Kit 72273 - Staffcar Citroen Traction 11CV

Wespe-Models Resin kit:
Kit 72019 - Opel Kapitein
Kit 72020 - Opel Super 6
Kit 72054 - CHEVROLET PICK-UP

All vehicles are painted in civilian style. I laid HO train tracks for tramcar. I replace the original train bogie to tram car, so current can through the railroad tracks to the metal wheel, I can provide lighting inside tramcar.
Many of the accessories are handmade by myself. Including the 4-waytraffic lights, fire hydrants, (modify with 1/35 ammo shells) power poles and so on. Use your own imagination can save a lot of money and make better effects.
Of course, I also used some 1/72 photo etched parts, including manhole cover, small chairs, tables.
Idea from the beginning to the completion of work I had spent two and a half months, including more than two weeks waiting for Canada Post strike, many parts can not be received on time, wasted a lot of time.
Although my work is not military related, but I am happy to share idea and experience. Because this is a new concept of making a diorama, we can use this way to make our diorama more lively!

Thanks for looking. Paul Tian.
